Radar Workshop on “Polarimetric Radar in Tropical Climate Regions”
Ladies & Gentlemen,
SELEX-Gematronik is conducting a radar workshop in 2011 with the topic:
“Polarimetric Radar in Tropical Climate Regions”, The workshop will take place on 13th September – 15th September 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Guest speakers at the workshop will include Prof. Dusan Zrnic of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), USA and Georgie George of the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
The goal of the course is to outline the benefits and limitations of dual polarization in tropical regions. After introducing to the principles of polarimetric weather radar, we will discuss dual polarization based classification schemes of radar returns. We will also address the theory of dual polarization attenuation correction and its limitations, demonstrated with practical examples. Rainfall measurements in tropical regions and their contrast and similarities with mid latitude climate regions will also be covered. A session on the individual advantages and limitations of the different radar wavelengths with respect to the operation in tropical regions will finish off the first section of the workshop. The second section will focus on the implementation of nationwide radar networks covering aspects like radar site selection, installation experience, monitoring and maintenance aspects as well as the application of radar data for disaster management.
SELEX-Gematronik will present its METEOR© 50DX mobile dual polarization radar system. This presentation will be rounded–off with a demonstration of the Dual Polarization Product Generation suite of our meteorological software package Rainbow®.
The Workshop will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Portuguese.
For organizational purposes of the radar workshop an early reply is highly appreciated. We would welcome your positive reply by to the 31st July, 2011. More details about the workshop are available on request.
