SELEX-Gematronik at WMO/BOM Radar Training Workshop on Radar Meteorology and Nowcasting

From 1st to 4th of August 2007, SELEX-Gematronik participated in the Fourth WWRP / WMO Training Workshop on Radar Meteorology & Nowcasting, held under the direction of the Bureau of Meteorology in Palm Cove, Queensland, Australia.

The workshop continued a series of nowcasting workshops undertaken by the World Meteorological Organization's World Weather Watch Research Program in Australia (2000), Brazil (2003), and South Africa (2005). As already in Brazil in 2003 and South Africa (2005), SELEX-Gematronik again acted in this recent "WMO Asia Pacific Weather Radar Training Workshop on Radar Meteorology & Nowcasting" as exclusive sponsor from the weather radar manufacturing sector.

Trainers from leading weather services and research institutions, such as the Bureau of Meteorology (Australia), Meteorological Service (Canada), NCAR - National Center for Atmospheric Research (USA), NSSL - National Severe Storm Laboratory (USA), Hong Kong Observatory and SELEX-Gematronik (Germany) had been invited to present their latest results and share their experience with workshop participants from 8 Asian Pacific countries.

Topics as weather radar technology, radar forecasting, radar storm monitoring, interpretation and now-casting were covered by a wide range of presentations. Additionally, lab exercises and case studies helped the participants to study the extensive workshop material in depth.
