AMS - Gematronik signs contract for first METEOR 360 Dual Pol Upgrade Solution

AMS - Gematronik GmbH provides the first Receiver over Elevation (ROEL) Dual Pol upgrade for the German Weather Service (DWD). The DWD research weather radar is located at the Meteorological Observatory Hohenpeißenberg.

Our dual polarization upgrade kit enhances the detection capabilities and extends the life time of existing Doppler weather radars. The ROEL solution locates all receiver components including signal processor in a climate controlled enclosure mounted on the antenna, above the elevation rotary joint.

The purpose of this project is to assess dual polarization algorithms and applications within the German Weather Service. Based on the results the DWD will introduce dual polarized weather radars in their future country-wide network.

The upgrade of the Doppler weather radar METEOR 360C will take place in 2005.
