Energy from the Company’s Roof Top: SELEX-Gematronik Banks on Clean Technology and Renewable Energy Generation

With the beginning of the new decade, SELEX-Gematronik has been acquiring its electricity consumption right from the company‘s roof top.

In the course of general expansion and modernization works at the company’s premises, one of the workshop roofs was equipped with a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic system. By use of photovoltaics, solar radiation is converted into direct current electricity.

The photovoltaic installation at SELEX-Gematronik’s consists of 140 modules covering a roof area of 250sqm. The power output is 31.5 kilowatts peak (kWp) with an expected annual output of approximately 26,000 kWp. Power delivery into the company’s electricity supply network started in late November 2009; surplus power exceeding SELEX’s own electricity consumption is being fed into the public power supply system.

Ulrich Nellen, Managing Director of SELEX Sistemi Integrati GmbH, says: “We have always been seriously committed to both, modern clean technologies and energy efficiency. With our photovoltaic system, we get the power directly from the source. No inefficient transmission and distribution, and few if any emissions. We do not only talk about environmental awareness and the necessity to use renewable energy sources – we act accordingly!”
