First AMS - Gematronik METEOR 1500C Weather Radars for Aeronautica Militare Italia
AMS - Gematronik has been awarded a contract to upgrade two GPM 500 weather radar systems with the latest klystron-based METEOR 1500C Doppler radar systems. The contract has been awarded by Teledife for the user Aeronautica Militare Italia (AMI) to AMS and subcontracted to AMS - Gematronik.
The polarimetric METEOR 1500C Doppler Radars uses our most advanced TX1500C klystron transmitter with a total peak power of 250 kW. Compared to the GPM 500 system (500 kW), the METEOR 1500C compensates for the lower peak power with a very low noise figure of £ 2 dB (GPM 500: 5 dB).
The METEOR receiver system consists of a RX1500C analog Receiver Front-End and our advanced Digital Receiver and Signal Processor Aspen DRX offering single and dual polarization variables.
The METEOR radar remote control, maintenance and diagnosis functions based on the radar control system Racon. Real-time data visualization, calibration and control is available to any remote site or the control center via our Ravis Radar Control and Diagnosis software.
Both GPM 500 weather radars are operated by Ufficio Generale per la Meteorologia (UGM). They are located in Pisa and Brindisi. The weather radars are part of the AMI weather radar network consisting of five weather radars in total.
