Modern Doppler and Dual Polarization based radar systems are prepared to offer more than the detection of hydrometeors in the atmosphere. SELEX-Gematronik was the first company world wide which successfully implemented a Doppler radar based sand storm detection algorithm for the Kuwait International airport. Beyond that the mobile dual polarization based X-band radar system is currently tested for the detection and tracking of volcanic ash clouds. SELEX-Gematronik continuously improves and extends the meteorological data processing kernel in order to derive the maximum benefit for our users worldwide.
